| 내용 | SOY WAX RESIST를 이용한 텍스타일 디자인 활용 연구 The case study of textile design using soy wax resist 주저자 : 박현주 서울여자대학교 미술대학 공예학과 조교수 Park Hyun-joo Seoul Women’s university 공동저자 : 나지영 상명대학교 생활예술학과 교수 Ra Ji-young Sangmyung university ------------------------------------------------------------ 논문요약 텍스타일디자인 연구에 있어서도 다량의 폐수나 공기를 오염 시키지 않는 에코(eco)기법에 관한 연구는 끊임없이 지속 되어야 한다. 바틱(batik)은 디자인의 세밀한 표현도 가능하며 예술적으로도 연구할만한 가치를 지닌 역사가 긴 염색기법이다. 이를 화학왁스가 아닌 소이왁스로 연구한다면 화학왁스 사용으로 인한 폐수 발생 및 공기오염을 줄이며 연구할 수 있다. 이러한 장점 때문에 소이왁스는 바틱을 통한 텍스타일 디자인개발을 지속적으로 연구할 수 있는 적합한 표현재료로 여긴다. 따라서 본 논문에서는 첫째, 소이왁스의 유래와 기존 바틱 왁스에 대하여 비교 및 장점을 리서치 하였다. 그리고, 소이왁스 원산지인 미국의 섬유 예술가중 소이왁스 방염에 대한 논문을 발표한 Deborah Bunny Bowen을 직접 만나 인터뷰 및 그녀의 작업실에서 워크샵을 가졌다. 둘째, 소이왁스의 다양한 텍스타일 디자인 표현사례들을 비교해보기 위해 이를 활용한 다른 텍스타일 디자인 및 본인의 소이왁스를 활용한 텍스타일디자인 연구 및 작품을 자료로 활용하여 비교 및 분석을 하고자 하였다. 그 결과 소이왁스(soy wax)를 이용한 텍스타일디자인 연구에 가장 적합한 섬유는 얇은 cdc실크에 밀납(bees wax)을 섞은 왁스로 사용하는 것이 가장 밀착이 잘되어 원하는 염색표현이 용이했다. 이로써 소이왁스는 사용과정에서 친환경을 추구할 수 있는 재료이며 동시에 디자이너 수작업의 개성을 살릴 수 있으며, 디지털작업과 함께 병행 할 경우 다채로운 칼라나 다양한 디자인효과를 얻을 수 있어 앞으로도 텍스타일 디자인개발에 사용되어질 수 있다. 그러므로 사용하는 사람의 개성과 목적에 맞는 현대 텍스타일디자인 개발 응용에 소이왁스의 활용을 기대 할 수 있다고 생각하여 본 연구에 목적과 의미를 둔다. 주제어 소이왁스, 바틱, 텍스타일 디자인 Abstract In the field of textile design it is necessary to keep studying on the echo method that does not contaminate a great quantity of water or pollute the air. The batik is a long historical dyeing technique, which can express the details of design and is worthwhile to study as an artistic area. If its research would be done with soy wax instead of chemical wax, it could be possible to reduce the quantity of waste water and decrease the air pollution. Soy wax is considered as a suitable material for the expression, with which the textile design development using batik technique can be continued. First, this paper researched, in this regard, the origin of soy wax, its comparison with batik wax, and its strengths. Next, an interview with Deborah Bunny Bowen and a workshop at her atelier were done. She is one of the textile artists in the United States of America, which is the country of origin of soy wax, and published a dissertation on soy wax resist printing. Third, in order to compare the various cases of textile design of soy wax, different pieces of soy wax textile design and this writter’s researches on textile design using soy wax and own design works are compared and analyzed. As a result, it turned out that the most appropriate textile for the study on textile design was thin cdc(crepe de chine) silk using the wax mixed bees wax, which was easy to dye to express what was desired as it could make perfect resist. Soy wax hereby could be used for the development of textile design since soy wax can be an eco-friendly material and can express distinctive style of an artist’s handwork as well. Digital printing combining soy wax will also provide diverse colors and present various design effects. The purpose and meaning of this study, therefore, could be found in that it is expected to utilize soy wax for development and application of current textile design according to user’s unique individuality and purpose.
