| 내용 | 디자인 읽어내기(Design Literacy) 이론 구축을 위한 디자인 세련도 (Design Sophistication) 개념에 관한 탐색적 고찰 Explanatory Study on the Concept of Design Sophistication toward Building the Theory of Design Literacy 김 미 소더비 아트 인스티튜트 Kim Mee Sotheby's Institute of Art ------------------------------------------------------------------------- 논문요약 기존의 미디어 읽어내기나 시각적 읽어내기 연구들은 매체의 속성이나 시각 정보 자체의 분석과 평가에 관한 논의들이 주를 이뤘다. 이에 본 연구에서는 커뮤니케이션 수단으로의 시각 정보를 활용하는 개인의 능력에 초점을 맞춘 연구가 필요함을 인식하고, 이러한 연구 분야로서 디자인 읽어내기를 제안하였다. 또한 디자인 읽어내기 분야의 분석개념으로서 디자인 세련도를 제안하였다. 읽어내기 능력의 측정과 관련된 선행연구들 및 정치학에서의 세련도 관련 연구들에서 그 틀을 참고하여 디자인 읽어내기 분야 및 디자인 세련도를 정의하고 디자인 세련도의 구성요인을 디자인적 현저성, 디자인적 지식, 인지적 능력으로 유목화 하였다. 이를 바탕으로 전문가 인터뷰 및 요인분석을 한 결과, 디자인 세련도는 디자인적 지식, 디자인적 현저성, 예술적 재능, 인지적 능력, 배경지식, 신체적 특징의 6가지 차원으로 구성되었다. 본 연구를 통하여, 매체 연구와 시각 정보 디자인의 분석과 평가가 주를 이루었던 기존의 미디어 읽어내기와 시각적 읽어내기 분야에 새로운 연구 분야의 가능성을 제시하고, 디자인 읽어내기 분야에 이론적인 틀 구축의 기반을 마련할 수 있을 것으로 기대한다. 주제어 디자인 읽어내기, 디자인 세련도, 시각적 읽어내기 Abstract This study concentrates on the individual's ability to comprehend and utilize visual information as a means of communication while most studies on media and visual literacies have focused on media attributes, or on the discussion of the analysis and assessment of visual information. As for the analytical concept of design literacy, design sophistication is proposed, and factors that contribute to design sophistication are also identified. Reference has been made to prior studies regarding the measurement of design literacy and sophistication in order to form a framework; most constituents of visual information have been reviewed so as to apply the conceptual framework of other areas to the visual information field. Through this practice, design literacy and design sophistication have been defined. In addition, the factors constituting the design sophistication have been categorized based on the earlier studies as follows: design salience, design knowledge and cognitive ability. Then, as a result of the expert in-depth interviews and the factor analysis, those factors have been expanded to 6: design knowledge, design salience, artistic talent, cognitive ability, background knowledge and physical variations. This study opened up new possibilities in the media and visual literacy fields while contemporary studies focused on analysis and assessment of media and visual design. Moreover, by suggesting design sophistication as a conceptual means of analyzing design literacy, it established a fundamental base for further design literacy studies.
